Hand-woven Landscapes
These handwoven
landscapes are some of the newest of Linda's creations.
The colors are bolder than her pastel shell weavings and they rely
more on color and texture as design elements. There are some
small shells in some of the landscapes, but the shells have a
much less important role in the total design. These designs
come from many years of viewing the topography of upstate New York
with its relatively flat land with trees and rolling hills at the
horizon line. This topograhy is interpreted by the artist as
undulating lines using chaining and twining weaving techniques, separated
by areas of hand-dyed locks of sheep's wool and strips of overshot
pattern weave. Horizontal lines of shiny rayon and silk fleece
in the lower part of the sky area contrasts with the more vibrant
color and movement of the rest of the piece. The weavings are custom-matted
and framed using all acid-free materials. Smaller images below
each piece show the weavings with frames. (Reference inventory

Woven with shades of burgundy wool hand-dyed from Uruguay. Other
fibers used are rayon, wool and unspun fiber in mauve, green, gold
and beige with fine white wool from Japan in the sky area.

F-070 Green
and Brown Landscape with Starfish
A hand-dyed wool with brown, green,
turquoise and gold forms the base color in this landscape. These
colors repeated in the section of undulating forms at the horizon.
The sky in this weaving is woven of a neutral gold-colored rayon with
cloud forms of yellow rayon and chenille. Brown tree forms are
sewn along the horizon line and a few brown shells and a small starfish
have been added in the lower middle of the weaving. Triple matted
and framed in a dark walnut frame with goldish-tan mat with brown
and green inner liner. (Frame shown below.)
